Alternate route

Hi, everyone. I’m a college student studying math and have been made aware of the alternate route teaching program. I’m in NJ and after looking into it saw that a lot of districts look down on it due to a lack of student teaching. For anyone that has done alternate route, have you found that it made finding a job as a math teacher more difficult?

Reconsidering college career goals. Security and Plan B’s?

Hello, everyone. I was hoping for a bit of advice on my situation.

For a bit of background, I’m almost 20 and just finished my sophomore year of college. I am currently a math major concentrated in education, and wanted to work in the public school system for a long time. This did not change after finishing my first round of student teaching and substituting, either. However, lately I’ve become interested in going to graduate school for math, and after speaking to advisors about how to make my application most competitive, I’ve come to the conclusion that I would need to switch my major to general math to complete necessary coursework.

This would mean that if I were not admitted to a graduate program, I wouldn’t have a fallback to being a teacher (which I would still be fine with), since licensure at my school is tied to the education concentration. This would leave me without an occupation for at least a year. While I have no doubt that I will be able to get a job as a math teacher in my state with a certification, I don’t know if I’m comfortable giving up the security of being able to job hunt right after graduation if things don’t go my way graduate school wise. I know I’ll also regret it if I don’t switch and lose my graduate school potential, as well. Do you think I should err towards the side of caution, or make the switch?

NJ Post-bacc/switching majors advice

Hey, everyone. I’ve posted on here before but it’s been ages. I wanted to ask if anyone on here went the post-bacc or alternate route to become a math teacher with a general BS in mathematics? The reason I’m asking is because I’m considering switching from my education-focused math major to the general math major to keep more doors open, take more classes, but I’d lose the easy path to licensure if I did that (would have to go alt route or do a two-year post bacc to do observation). For reference, I’m in NJ. Wondered if anyone could chime in with advice?

Hello. I’m a 19 year old male going for a cardiology appointment in a month. I’ve been having on-and-off sharp, localized pains very sensitive to touch. I understand this is likely muscular rather than cardiac, but I am going to cardiologist to rule out anything concerning. I’m also a very anxious person, and am worried about becoming tachycardic during the EKG. If this happens, can the cardiologist still interpret it and what are some things I can do to prevent this from happening?
