I failed a class where almost nobody passed. What can I do?

I just failed my Computer Concepts class at my community college and it absolutely destroyed my GPA right before I transfer next semester.

I’m honestly devastated because I genuinely put more effort into this class than almost any other class this semester. I spent so much time trying to stay on top of it that I neglected some of my other classes, and now it feels like all of that effort was for nothing.

The problem is that this class felt completely impossible to prepare for. The professor never gave study guides, barely answered emails (you basically had to call or text him just to get a short response), and the exams were rarely based on the material we were actually learning. He constantly told us to “go beyond the book” and “focus on the concepts”, but never explained what that actually meant or what we were expected to study.

Most of the class failed. The highest grade in the class was apparently a D.

At that point, I genuinely don’t understand how that reflects student performance more than poor teaching/testing. I’m not saying I’m perfect or that I deserved an A automatically, but if almost nobody can pass the class, something is seriously wrong.

I’m trying to figure out what I can realistically do from here. Has anyone dealt with something similar?

Is it worth reporting the professor to the department chair/dean?

Is there any chance of appealing a grade in a situation like this?

Can schools investigate professors if an entire class performs this badly?

Would this hurt my transfer process badly?

I’m just really discouraged right now and would appreciate advice from anyone who’s been through something similar.
