Every night there is something keeping me awake. It's not anxiety, nor general restless thoughts. It's just general stimulus. I'll be lying in bed when my arm get uncomfortable, so I'll shift my weight, then I'll get an itch somewhere and take care of that, then my roomate will start snoring, then I'll put on some white noise, but earbuds are another thing that move and drop out. There'll be some knot in the sheets as I turn over, then my hair (which is long) will find itself under my body, which is scratchy and pulls at it, so I'll move it out of the way, then my nose starts whistling, which no amount of whitenoise quite covers up, etc etc etc.

It's like if my mind finds any stimulus whatsoever it WILL latch on to it, and it WILL keep me awake. White noise helps, but it is by no means a fix. Sometimes I'm even kept awake by the physical thump of my own heartbeat.

I can only actually fall asleep once I become deleriously tired. Does this experience have a name? And are there any additional remmedies?
