Hey everybody, making this post to see if anybody has experience in both the realm of being a security engineer at a big company, vs being a SE for a cybersecurity company. Throughout college my whole goal was to eventually work in as a Security Engineer/analyst, and in the process I ended up pivoting to sales engineering from a support gig as it was a easy transition and the pay was far better. While I am very happy with where I am at and have the opportunity to get into the technical weeds in my free time at work (even encouraged) I sometimes wonder long term if this is going to be as good a gig as working on the security side would be. Especially considering security folks in big tech make as much as SWE's in a lot of cases, it seems long term that may be a better move ( top SE's in cyber get paid well of course but not as stable as a job where you just have base+stock).
Long story short I just want to here perspective from someone who has done both!
