Lexapro and Tapering Success Story
Since there are so many negative stories about Lexapro and especially about coming off the meds, I wanted to share my story.
I started Lexapro after a viral infection paired with very stressful personal circumstances messed up my nervous system really badly in the summer of 2023. I had always suffered from low-level anxiety, but never needed meds. Suddenly, I had crippling panic attacks, could not eat, sleep, or work.
After refusing for a VERY long time, my family convinced me to start Lexapro. Onboarding was not easy, but after two weeks, I felt like a new person. I know for many it takes much longer, so do not freak out if it takes several weeks for you, but for me, the relief came quickly. It took several months to feel back to my normal self, but I felt much better very quickly. I also suffered from very few side effects, except maybe some weight gain, although this was very possibly also due to moving less and just eating more than I used to.
Last summer I decided to start tapering. Not because of side effects but because I felt much better and wanted to see if I could do without the meds. I tapered very, very slowly with liquid Lexapro over almost 6 months. The slow taper was not fun, but it was totally manageable. The most annoying thing for me was that I was just very tired for weeks on end. I have been off the meds since January and genuinely feel good now!
I am honestly very thankful for these meds. They saved my life when I needed them, and I would take them again anytime I felt I needed them.
