I’m after some advice more than anything.
My son (9)and his friend next door (8) love riding their bikes up and down our street. We live in a quiet suburb with very little traffic, plus two cul-de-sacs they’re allowed to use. They have clear boundaries, only half the street and those cul-de-sacs.
Recently, on two separate occasions, they’ve come home saying a few older neighbours (they described them as “grandpa age”) were standing outside filming them and calling out things like “come closer so I can see your face.”
It’s made them uncomfortable, and honestly it doesn’t sit right with me either given their age.
What confuses me is this, people often say kids these days are always stuck on devices and never outside. But when they are out riding bikes and actually being active, they’re getting watched and filmed?
I don’t want to jump to conclusions or escalate unnecessarily, but I also don’t want to ignore something that could be inappropriate.
How would you handle this?
- Speak directly to the neighbours?
- Leave it unless it happens again?
- Set stricter boundaries for the kids?
Keen to hear how others would approach this.
