Help/Advice

Yesterday, my dog walked up the steps and started to breath weird like he couldnt and was taking deep breaths. I didnt know what was going on i thought he was trying to couch but couldnt get it out so I hit him on his back to help him. When I did he lost his balance completely and started stumbling repeatedly before falling on the bathroom floor and starting at our tub only partially holding his head and a bit of his upper body up. He ignored me for about 20-30seconds not responding to his name or touch and wouldnt look at me. Then he left the bathroom and laid down and started shaking. I tried calling an er vet but couldnt get one on the line and when I spoke to my mother she said I was overreacting bc only I saw it and I "tend" to do this with him but I haven't been wrong before because he was walking funny one time bc of a torn leg muscle. He started to act normal and i stayed with him the whole day and the next. He just walked up the stairs again and did the weird breathing. My mom saw it this time but he didnt fall so she saying I must've hit him to hard and made him fall. Hes been shivering since yesterday too, its been a little chilly at night and lessens when I put blankets on him but he still does it

He is an old dog, 11 years old but has had no health issues at all outside of a benign leg growth (vet said non cancerous) and a torn leg muscle a few months ago and stays up to date on his shots. I did notice his heart rate feels faster since this happened

Does anyone have any advice on what to do or how I can convince my mother to take him to the an urgent care vet. She said she'll make a regular appointment but the worker at the vet suggested urgent over an appointment when I called yesterday.

edit: thank you everyone, I convince her to let me take him today to a vet.

update: he has a referral to a cardiologist and is on strict rest rules
