Acute pain in 2nd/3rd toe joints after weighted calf raises (rehab for ankle sprain)
Hi,
I’m rehabbing an ankle sprain and doing PT exercises (single-leg squats, band work for inversion/eversion, seated calf raises with 32kg (70 pounds) and knee-to-wall dorsiflexion).
During calf raises, I felt a sharp pain in the forefoot (base of 2nd/3rd toes). Now I can’t properly bear weight or walk, and standing hurts. This happened 7 days ago. The next morning, my outer calf seized up and it has remained crampy and tight ever since.
Did I overload it? Could this something more serious like a stress injury?
I’ve stopped training for now. My next physio appointment is at the end of May.
Any advice or similar experiences?
