hi guys, sorry if this is a dumb question/post. some context: i recently got referred for iron transfusions because i have 0 tolerance for iron supplementation, and changing my diet to have more iron did not raise my iron levels. most recent labs came back with a ferritin level of 4 and iron saturation of 6%. we're trying to get to the root of my anemia in the meantime because i'm otherwise healthy and have nothing that should warrant being anemic aside from potential poor absorption.
but anyway, i'm really grateful that a doctor finally listened to me and referred me, but now i'm worried and overthinking how i'm going to keep it up after getting the transfusion(s) considering, as i said, i have 0 oral iron tolerance, and if i do have absorption issues... i feel like i'm kind of just doomed to have to get transfusions for the rest of my life. has anybody else had to do this? is it difficult and scary? do you feel like it impacts your life having to get regular transfusions? or is there something else i can try? thanks in advance <3
