Straight set or drop the weight.

When I workout for example, when I’m doing my 8-12 rep range and on my first set I hit 8 reps, should I rest than keep the same weight and do my 2nd set with the the reps I still have remaining, or should I drop the weight which when I tested it I reached close and around the area of failure which is 8 reps the same as my first set.
