Help me please, I'm a dietetics student with a case study presentation coming up and I'm really struggling 🥹
So, a quick context is that my internship/shadowing was conducted online (I'm in a region affected by war so unfortunately that was the only option), which means, for my case study, I was completely dependent on whatever information my trainer decided to share with me, and she has been really hard to reach, like it takes her two business weeks to reply, so I can't really go back and ask for more details at this point.
Anyways, the patient I'm working with has edema, but that's it, I don't have further information on the severity or so. It's probably due to inflammation and malnutrition since pt. has an infection, low albumin, low total protein, and unintentional weight loss.
I can't find any guidelines on calculating edema free weight for non renal/dialysis patients, so my questions are:
Do we even calculate edema free weight for other patients?
Could I use IBW as a possible alternative?
Any help would be genuinely so appreciated, even just pointing me in the right direction 🙏
