As a longtime fan of period dramas, there’s almost none (90s & newer) I haven’t seen that suit my taste. It’s rather sad loving this genre but all the lists of “obscure” films to see I’ve already watched. I’d seen “Affairs of the Heart” listed on prime, but never thought to watch it until now. This was due to a prejudice I formed when a friend & I watched one of the 80s versions of an Austen series and couldn’t stand the first 20 minutes enough to keep watching.
So far I have only seen the first episode, but it was absolutely wonderful! If you like the first season of Bridgerton, this is so much better. Aside from the accuracy and depth, it’s so much more complex in an intriguing and charming way.
What other pre-90s period dramas, especially romances, do you enjoy? There must be many out there. (So far the only older ones I have seen & loved are the Millionairess with Maggie Smith (free on YouTube, she is so magnificent in it, and the dialog is marvelous) and Partners in Crime with Francesca Anis, which was delightful and not nearly as long of a series as the material deserves.
