Might be a dumb question. New to renting

If I’m making an offer for an apartment and they’re asking for a move in date

Am I less likely to get it if I put June 1st and the apartment is available now?

Should I put May 15th? Want to avoid paying extra half month rent if possible if that’s how it works?
