F1 Visa for one school, but switching to another (new SEVIS) — can I enter the US?
I’m an international student accepted into University A for Fall 2026. I already have a valid F-1 visa for the same school(Uni A), issued in March 2026.
However, now I have a better admission from school B and have decided to attend school B.
I have a new I-20 and SEVIS number from University B. I understand getting a new F1 visa with University B stamped in it is the safest option. However, it is extremely difficult to find visa slots, plus my course starts in July 2026.
Can I travel to the US with my existing valid F1 Visa for University A, along with the new I-20 and new SEVIS for University B and explain my situation to the CBP officers at the port of entry? I know that this is not the safest option, but what are my chances of being allowed to enter the US with this approach?
Would love to know if anyone has been in the same boat. Slightly urgent and thanks in advance for any advice.
