How tfffff did they even get this in

Since my car is currently sitting and I need to change the fuel filter as well, I decided to check both the pump and tale a look into the tank. MAN everyone takes it out so easily meanwhile I found this big whole hose clamp. How did they even get this in? I guess the rubber and clamp was a bit less bloated god knows how many years ago? I even tried looking again at a few videos just to be sure I didn’t forget how the pump looked but no one seems to have this kind of rubber hose and clamp onto it.

What else while I go with the head gasket?

So I’m going to change to a new head gasket soon, aw well as new intake manifold gasket and thermostat. Any suggestion on anything else I should do while the engine is opened up? I’ll clean the valves as well of course. Also I’m finding a lot of different opinions on what needs to be torque spec amd what doesn’t meed to
