Switching from a right shot to left shot.

For context I have been learning how to play hockey for less than a year now however the sport is not new to me. My brother and I played street hockey and knee hockey as kids and I always had a right shot, left hand on top even though my dominant hand is my right hand. when I started playing on the ice it what was most comfortable so I just stuck with it.. I have tried my right hand on top a few times and my shot is terrible (I can get the puck off the ground but there is barely any power to it). but I do find that I have an easier time stick handling. I also find that I have an easier time getting myself ready to shoot in stride compared to the stick I currently use where it feels foreign and almost like I am going to fall. The only time I can do it is off ice.

I have heard people say whatever hand is on top when you hold a broom but I use both. I find my right hand on top feels a little more comfortable but I switch between the both whenever sweeping so it don’t notice too much of a difference. I also use my right hand to vacuum.

Would it be possible to make the switch now despite being used to one way all my life?
