As I was paying my credit card today a dark thought occurred to me that I can’t stop thinking about and hopefully someone can explain the protocol and ease my mind.

My brother and I are co-executors in my dad’s will. Mom died years ago and no other family. We all live in Ontario.

If my dad suddenly died in an accident, how do we handle his bills (l mean like his monthly credit cards, cell phone and any others like that he may have). We’re both executors, but I don’t think that gives us immediate access to his bank accounts. Do we pay the bills ourselves, keep a record and get reimbursed by the estate, do we just leave them until the estate can pay them which seems odd, is there some sort of procedure? I can’t find anything about this specific case, everything seems to be about the estate settling accounts.

Thanks.
