Alright, everyone, listen up, because I've got a bit of a wild idea.
We all know George R.R. Martin loves to take inspiration from real history, like the Wars of the Roses or the Albigensian Crusade. But I'm really starting to believe that Bloodraven, also known as Brynden Rivers, isn't just trying to win against the Others in the end. I think he wants to completely change how humans live, based on some kind of magical "Year Zero" plan.
Basically, Bloodraven is like Westeros's Pol Pot.
Here's what makes me think the Three-Eyed Crow intends to completely wipe out the old ways and start fresh in Westeros.
The "Back to the Land" Nightmare (Beyond the Wall)
Pol Pot wanted to get rid of cities, technology, and old cultures, making everyone work together on farms. So what's Bloodraven up to? He's got Bran stuck in a cave, giving him some weird paste, and making him watch history unfold, all disconnected from other people. Bloodraven himself has already left the whole feudal system behind, living way out in the "countryside" of the far north.
Getting Rid of "Smart People" and the Ruling Class
The Khmer Rouge went after anyone who could read, wore glasses, or stuck to old traditions. What Bloodraven's doing is using his powers to mess with important people, which has led to big families like the Starks, Baratheons, Lannisters, and Martells getting completely wiped out by war, fire, and ice. He's breaking down the very feudal system he used to uphold as Hand of the King. He's not trying to fix things; he wants to smash them, just like "Year Zero" aimed to do.
About "Fire and Sword..."
We usually think of Daenerys or fAegon when that comes up, but Bloodraven is actually the one who truly believes in doing whatever it takes, no matter how harsh, for what he sees as a "greater good." He's seen what's coming, and he's ready to let 99% of Westeros die if it means the 1% who fit his plan will make it through the Long Night.
The Weirwood Network as a Society Where Everyone is the Same
Pol Pot wanted everyone to be completely uniform and collective. My theory is that Bloodraven isn't just trying to stop the Others; he wants to combine all of humanity into one big mind, linked through the Weirwood trees. No more separate families, no more wanting power, no more feudal wars. Just one big, shared human consciousness. A real "Year Zero."
So, here's the thing. We're all hoping Bran becomes the next Three-Eyed Crow, but what we might actually be seeing is him becoming the helper of a magic dictator. This dictator thinks the last 10,000 years of history have been a total mess and need to be wiped clean.
In short: Bloodraven's intense desire to "reset" everything back to a time before humans fought, his eagerness to tear down all current power systems, and his wish for everyone to be part of a hive-mind network, all strongly line up with the Khmer Rouge's "Year Zero" way of thinking.
