The faulty logic behind a superhero character of mine
I’m working on conceptualising a superhero project. One of the main characters’ gimmick is that her ‘power’ is actually just that her consciousness is displaced 250 seconds into the future, so she feins having precognition.
There is a reveal planned where she actually does have a power, which is the cause of her feeling like she’s mentally stuck ahead of time.
However, I’m kind of at impasse with the logic behind it. I have a hard rule that true precognition is impossible in this universe, because I feel that the implication that the future is set removes agency from the characters. There are infinite parallel timelines which come up in the story, and I feel that concept doesn’t work if the timeline is set.
Therefore, I’m struggling to come up with an ability that justifies her believing her consciousness is slightly the future. The closest I’ve got is the idea that she could be a speedster who processes information so quickly that she feels ahead, but that feels kinda trite and convoluted.
Any suggestions are very welcome.
