Howdy, me heartys.

I've been loving the game, and trying out different modes. I was suspicious after my initial multiplayer game that the boats are so undervalued that they may not be necessary at all. Which lead me to the question in the title.

I'm trying to do a challenge run in which I never complete 'How my sea adventure began' and never make/fire a boat's cannons.

It's been going shockingly well. Spoiler alert, my world map is up to this. Before the second boss, we have the quest 'Needle in a Haystack' that requires boarding the Unsinkable, which requires disabling it. Is there any way to progress the main story while maintaining my shipless honour?
