This is a civil war era portrait of John Lawrence Churchill, a distant relative who died about ten years after the Civil War. The family lived in NYC and were related to the Rikers. It’s been in our family for generations. There might be a signature beneath the frame but we don’t want to mess with that. We are curious about the artist, and about anything else notable about this piece.

I’d add a photo of the back but it’s difficult to remove from the wall.
