Trying to have a more natural writing while not being a native english speaker.
As I'm writing in English (not my native language), besides grammar mistakes I already anticipated, I came across a problem I never thought it was so strong in my English writing: the way I phrase my sentences, while intelligible, doesn't work very well in English, especially if it's something more literary. I wanted to know if there is anyone else here that is struggling with the same thing and how you've been dealing with it. Besides the order of factors that i often mix up, there are certain phrase lenghts and use of certain words that are okay in my language but in English may look too much "pompous". Actually, I don't really know if it's really the case or not, but certain things just look odd in English, like I'm just literally translating? Heres an example that I'm not sure if it has this problem: The wooden floor barely creaked under his languid steps, but the silence was disrupted with a thud as he sat on the bed.
Anyway, is there anyone else here that is not a native English speaker and it's having the same problem? Even if there isn't, how can you spot if it's really what I described and what are the ways to "fix" it?
