Hi community…!
After a couple of days of online research (including à long conversation with chat GPT) I’ve been unable to figure the exact origin of this jar.
By concept, almost surely from southern Italy, France, or Spain, with some indicatives favoring the later, but not exact visual matches.
It’s thick coarse terracotta, fully glazed interior and bottom, double lip, lots of signs of all kinds of wear in the exterior.
30 inches high x 13 wide.
More likely for household olive oil storage.
