An app/website that reads to me?

Is there a free app or a website, preferably an app, that I can upload PDFs or files and have it read it to me in an understandable and clear TTS voice? The ones I found were either very sketchy or are paid apps. Thank you!

I never knew dogs smelled this bad

I’m a 4th year veterinary medicine student, all my life I’ve been saying that I want to be a small animal’s vet, as in dogs and cats and such. But I never actually interacted with dogs that much, I live in an area where the majority of people keep cats as pets. You rarely ever see a dog. So naturally I worked with a lot of cats in my community, and I was excited to do the same with dogs. This year I had to take 2 semesters abroad, and I ended up in a country where the opposite is true. I rarely see any cats, the majority here are dogs. And ever since working here, I’ve noticed dogs have this awful metallic dirty rabbit smell, that’s the best I could describe it. I used to think it was a couple of individual cases. But I smell it on almost every dog, and tbh I hate it so much. Whenever I pet one it sticks on my hand and I can smell it there. Even well groomed and well kept dogs have it. And that’s like the baseline of dog smell, the best ones I found smell like that, and the ones that are actually dirty…. Ugh… I’ve smelled smells here from dogs that are beyond my imagination. I’ve been around many cats in my entire life and almost none of them smell bad, they smell so fresh and clean. Even stray cats.

It also weirds me out that people here seem to not care at all about the smell, most of all the doctors and nurses. They don’t wear any gloves and rub all over the dogs, let them lick them all up, even their face, and kiss them. The first couple of times I saw them do this, I went over to the dogs they were with and just wiped them with my hand and smelled it to check if they smelled or not, and they smelled awful. I had to go wash my hands and even then I still smell it. I don’t know how they do this without gagging. I used to see dogs licking people and rubbing on them in shows and cartoons and I thought it was so cute, but now I don’t know about that lol. I know vets are supposed to handle awful smells, and trust me I’ve handled very very bad smells before, but at least when we did it back then we wore gloves and protective clothing.

Speaking of gloves, recently whenever a patient comes, and I need to check their vitals or handle them in general, I’ve started wearing gloves. The doctors and owners often give me strange looks, almost as if I’ve offended them in a way, even though I try to do it in the most polite way I can. I usually say “just a second” or something like that before I get a pair of gloves to wear. Still they give me weird looks or scoff at me. I started to think that it’s just me or if it’s because I haven’t gotten used to the smell since I didn’t work with dogs before, and many of my classmates that came with me also noticed the smell and have similar issues. Still, I don’t think it’s offensive in the slightest to wear gloves, quite the opposite. Overall I don’t think I’m that excited to work with dogs anymore lol.

EDIT: I love dogs, and I’m not sensitive to smells at all. I’ve handled cows, sheep, goats, camels, horses, and many other animals. So I’ve handled worse smells. Dogs are just new territory to me and the smell is not like any other I’ve smelled before. Also the not wearing gloves thing was weirding me out.
