Hello everyone.
I was given a Persimmon and a Pawpaw tree that I will be planting in a sunny location in my backyard in central Maryland.
Along with the trees I also have a plastic cylinder shield thingy to protect the trees and I'm not sure how much of the tree should be covered with the shield. Should I cover the leaves as well or cut the shield down some so it only covers part of the stem? The pawpaw is fairly small so I may only use the shield for the persimmon. We have groundhogs/rabbits/squirrels in the area.
I also am not sure if I will need to provide some sort of shading cloth above at least the pawpaw for the first couple of years, due to it getting pretty intense heat during the summers in the section of the yard they will be going.
I'm not to sure either on how far apart from each other they should be. I may also be adding another pawpaw tree in the future.
Any other recommendations or questions would be great. Thanks for your time!
