Show me your best friend.

Show me your horses you’ve had for years and tell me how awful your start was; or rather how much better your relationship is now. I need a pick me up and some hope😅

I know my horse likes me, he actively seeks me out, is easy to “catch” (I don’t need to really catch, he just comes over) . I’ve had him for less than 3 months and he came from a situation where he was very food insecure and was ravenous and food aggressive when I got him. He bit my goat because he was so food aggressive. He kicked me in the hip after 4 days of regular feeding because I walked between him and the hay net and the other horse (it was “my fault” but also you cannot kick people). I had to sedate him a month ago for a farrier but am confident picking up all 4 and that my farrier will be able to also. He lets me groom his entire body and will yield and back to me at feed time. He lunges both ways and backs up hills. We’ve been in some sticky situations and i don’t think he would kick me anymore but I haven’t forgotten. He’s honestly doing great and above all- he’s only 3. He’s literally a baby. I know this and I plan to have him the rest of his life- decades hopefully.
I don’t need specific help, sometimes I just get my shit rocked and I really think about how these hard moments will build a really solid relationship as we work through them. Show me your best friend you’ve had their whole life (or just years!) and tell me how awkward some of the first months were - tell me anecdotal stories of being sling shot at the end of a lead like a rag doll and now your horse would lay down their life for you. I just want to reinforce the big picture or have something to come back to when I get … sling shot at the end of a lead😅

Pic of my beautiful bratty baby boy for enjoyment and yes he’s got crazy eyes. We’ve since gotten more chill than the last pic, but like…not that much. Sometimes it’s real cowboy town around here 🙃🤠
