Visiting El Chaltén in October. Laguna de los Tres for beginners?
Hi everyone!
My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to El Chaltén this October and we’d love some advice. We are from Brazil and, to be honest, we don’t have much hiking experience. However, we have "okay" physical conditioning since we hit the gym regularly.
We have a few specific questions:
Laguna de los Tres: Do you think it's doable for beginners? We know it’s the most iconic trek, but we’re wondering if we’re aiming too high for our first time.
Snow levels: Is there usually still a lot of snow on the trails in October? We are currently buying our gear (boots, layers, etc.) and want to know what to prepare for.
The Weather: What is El Chaltén like in October? We expect wind, but how cold does it usually get during the day? There's sun? Rain? All of it?
The Bathroom Situation: My girlfriend is a bit worried about this one—are there any toilets at the campsites/along the trails, or do we have to "rough it" in the bushes? lol.
We'll be arriving on October 17th. Since I'm a photographer, I'd love to connect with others on the trails! If anyone is around and wants to join us, I’d be happy to snap some photos of you for free — as long as you can help take some of the two of us as well! lol.
Any tips for first-timers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
