This scene in the hospital seems to be rather intense. They're arguing, they're hugging and it's too much. What gets my attention specially is the way ruben seems so desperate for the hug while Niall seems empty eyed, like he's zoning out.

My theory is that in this scene ruben will finally open up about the abuse he suffered from his father (this is canon at this point cmon). Niall has that look because he's shocked and recontextctualizing a lot of stuff ruben has said and done throughout the years.

I've seem people claim that if Niall didn't resort to call Ruben, Alby and Niall would have the proper space to develop a cutesy heartstopper type relationship. But would they?

Would Niall have the courage to reciprocate Alby's advances without their first kiss caused by Ruben? Would Alby feel such need to save or fix Niall if not by Ruben's presence?
