Hey everyone,

I’ve been looking for ways to cut down on API costs for my daily coding agents, and I recently decided to test out the new Xiaomi MiMo v2.5 Pro API. The biggest draw right now is that they are offering a completely free API tier with no credit card required, and it’s fully OpenAI-compatible out of the box.

I wanted to see if it could actually hold its own against Claude for heavy-lifting tasks, so I hooked it up to VS Code using the Cline extension (it also works perfectly with Roo Code and Antigravity) to put it through its paces.

To really test its structural logic, I gave it a zero-dependency challenge: building a cinematic, single-file landing page using only raw HTML, Tailwind CDN, and Vanilla JS for a 3D hover effect. It handled the prompt and the context window surprisingly well.

I recorded a full walkthrough showing exactly how to grab the free API key, configure the custom endpoint in your IDE, and the live results of the coding test.

📺 You can watch the full setup and live test here:https://youtu.be/mxlQeYc9O0Y

For those who just want the quick setup specs to try it themselves:

Has anyone else here pushed the MiMo-v2.5-Pro model with multi-file workspace refactors yet? I'm curious to hear how it's handling larger codebases for you all compared to Claude 3.5 Sonnet.
