Bought a Timex MK1 Mechanical (36mm) for Rs. 12,000 (MRP Rs. 22,000) or 45% off and returned it the very next day.

I already own around 10-11 watches and always wanted to add a proper field watch to my collection. And honestly, I just couldn’t say no to the Timex mechanical for this price. What an absolutely beautiful-looking watch.

But the moment I wore it, I was genuinely shocked by how small it looked in real life.

Everyone says 36mm is the “perfect classic field watch size,” but for me… it just wasn’t. The 18mm strap width didn’t help either. On wrist, it almost felt a bit girlish to me personally. No complaints about the watch itself though, vintage charm, clean dial, mechanical movement, everything about it was beautiful.

I spent almost 24 hours trying to convince myself that the size was okay because “that’s how field watches are supposed to wear.” Took it to office, checked it under different outfits and lighting, kept staring at my wrist hoping it would grow on me.

It didn’t.

I realized I want to invest money in a watch that I wear confidently without second thoughts. If I have to mentally justify the size every time I look at it, it’s probably not the right watch for me.

Lesson learnt: TRY IT BEFORE YOU BUY IT.

Will probably save a bit more now and put that money towards a Seiko 5 GMT someday. That’s been sitting at the top of my wishlist for a long time anyway.

Credit to Myntra as well - super smooth return process.

For my field watch though, I’ll probably still go for the Timex MK1 itself, but the automatic version with the 40mm dial. That one feels more suitable for my wrist size. But this time, I’ll definitely try it on before buying.

Note: pic 1 is on my wife's wrist.
