My friend and I have been meaning to go down the norse path for some time now, so last night we finally built an altar for Odin, and decorated it with offerings, crystals, some flowers and poetry. We lit a grey (one of his colours) candle for him and when we lit it, we noticed that the flame was extraordinarily tall and the candle was burning down very quickly. After a while, the candle looked a lot like a tree stump with two faces engraved on it, and soon thereafter, a second flame appeared, thus making it burn even quicker and wilder. I am not sure if I am just reading too much into this, but does anybody have any ideas what this could mean?

So, my friend and I have been meaning to go down the norse path for quite some time now, and, as a way to sort of 'take our first step' if you will, after being stuck in the research phase for a while, we built Odin an Altar on Beltane, with some offerings and crystals and lit a dark grey candle for him. The first thing we noticed was that flame was extraordinarily tall, and the candle was burning down quickly (it was done in 30min, where another candle of the same set took almost 3hrs before). The wick and the candle itself, as well as the way the wax pooled around the candle looked remarkably close to a tree stump. But the most striking thing was that after a while the flame split into two, very tall and wide flames that kept merging together into one huge flame and splitting apart again. Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but I've done candle work before and while I've seen stuff like the flames dancing or growing suspiciously tall for a few secs, nothing like this has ever happened. Any idea what this could mean, or am I simply imagining things?
