I had a pretty uncomfortable experience yesterday during King’s Day, and I’m still a bit angry about it.
I was selling stuff at Vondelpark, and after a full day of standing, talking, and packing up, I was exhausted. When I finally loaded everything onto a small trolley and started heading out, a random guy (white male, tall,, holding a beer bottle, a bit drunk) started blocking my way on purpose.
Like, I would move left, he’d move left. I’d go right, he’d go right. It was very obvious he was doing it deliberately.
I kept a poker face and told him “fxxx off”, but then he started reaching into his pants like he was about to unzip them, which was honestly disgusting and crossed a line for me.
I ignored him and kept moving, dropped some of my stuff, picked it up, and when I looked back, he had already walked away and was laughing and clapping hands with his friends, like it was some kind of joke.
I just don’t get it. What’s funny about harassing a girl who’s clearly tired and just trying to go home?
Is this kind of behavior common during events like King’s Day? Or did I just run into a particularly shitty person?
Would appreciate hearing others’ experiences or how you deal with stuff like this.
