Hi folks,

I'm a relatively new DM running a game for five third-level players, and I'm designing some magic items for my players. I'm hoping to get some feedback on the balance of these items. Do you think these are good/useful/powerful enough for a third level party, or alternatively are any of them too powerful/not matched with the others? I've adapted some from existing items in the SRD, but others are my own creations.

Here are the items and the classes of the players they are intended for:

  • The Anthology of Malthagos (Wizard)

    • Contains transcriptions of spells: Borrowed knowledge, Detect thoughts (this Wizard's character is interested in collecting magical knowledge and spells as a motivation)
  • The Blade of Adda-re-septa (Paladin)

    • +2 magical longsword. (2x/day): you may spend a bonus action to cast Bless. This does not deplete a spell slot.
  • The Veil of Zerala (Cleric, disguise self is for the personal traits of the character)

    • (3x/day): While wearing this veil, you may spend an action to cast the disguise self spell. The spell ends if the veil is removed. This does not deplete a spell slot.
  • The Horn of Sarasi (Bard)

    • (2x/day): When you blow this horn, you may spend an action to cast earth tremor (DC 14). This does not deplete a spell slot.
  • The Sandals of Rashanak (Rogue)

    • (2x/day): while wearing these sandals, you may spend an action to cast misty step. This does not deplete a spell slot.
