Hey everyone, hoping to get some advice from people who’ve been through something similar.
I’m a Pakistani national moving to Prague on October 1, 2026 for my Masters at Metropolitan University Prague. I have a Czech Type D long-stay visa (student) already issued, valid Oct 1 – Dec 26, 2026 — 60 days, single entry.
The issue is my passport expires on December 26, 2026 — same day as the visa. The Czech embassy in Islamabad limited my visa validity to match my passport expiry.
My situation:
Pakistan has a rule that you cannot travel internationally with less than 6 months passport validity. At departure (Oct 1) my passport will have roughly 87 days remaining — which may cause Pakistani immigration to stop me from boarding.
My questions:
1. Has anyone traveled from Pakistan with less than 6 months passport validity? Is that rule strictly enforced at Lahore/Karachi airport?
2. If I renew my passport now in Pakistan — can I travel with both old passport (with visa sticker) + new passport together? Is this accepted at Czech border control?
3. After arriving Prague, I need to report to Ministry of Interior (Hládkov 682/9, Praha 6) within 30 working days to collect my long-term residence permit. Will they issue the residence permit on my new passport if I bring both passports together?
4. Has anyone dealt with Czech MOI for residence permit transfer between passports?
Any advice from people who’ve navigated Czech immigration or Pakistani passport rules would be massively appreciated. This move is a big deal for me and I want to get it right.
Shukria / Děkuji 🙏
