Hey home maintenancers, my dad passed, and I’m moving into his old place. It is a 3 story town house in Ontario, Canada.
There was some water damage on the drywall ceiling below the 3rd floor shower. I removed the drywall to find this catastrophe.
I am not too worried about the mold. I will scrub it with a mixture of bleach/water, let it dry, then spray it with a mold killer and let it dry again. I will wear appropriate PPE.
The joist however is another problem. Can I reinforce it? Or should it be replaced?
I’m hoping I can mend it with a section of 2x6 and truss plates.
I do have a contractor coming next week to inspect as well.
I am renovating the bathroom and will address the plumbing later.
