I genuinely thought this was going to be a standard 80s romcom, complete with a Manic Pixie Dream Girl trying to make a boring Yuppie live a little. Then it turns out the Manic Pixie Dream Girl is mentally... off and in an abusive marriage to a violent criminal. the yuppie is a depressed, spineless sadsack. Her trying to make him live a little mostly involves stealing cars, not paying restaurant bills, and BJs on calls with his boss.

And then the Manic Pixie Dream Girl's violent criminal husband shows up. And what was a romcom turns into a violent crime-thriller halfway through the movie's runtime.

The sheer tension and grim undertone throughout almost lost me, but this movie stuck the landing. Surprisingly romantic. 10/10.

Honestly reminded me of the show "The End of the F**king World" but instead of two mentally ill British teens, it's two mentally ill adults in Reagan's America.
