So I've been living here coming up on two years now, and within that time they've changed company management 3 to 4 times. We were originally on a 12 month lease, having paid 7550 in security deposits on top of first months rent. After the 12 month lease was over we renewed for a six month lease that ended in February and since then we have not been on a lease because they haven't had it ready for us claiming it was because of the management changes. They told us not to worry, though just to keep paying rent on time and they would waive the $500 fee for a month a month because they wouldn't have a lease ready for us.
Now keep in mind my girlfriend is pregnant so we assumed that we were going to be renewing our six month lease which would end just in time for me and her to move down to Los Lunas to live closer with their family but then they told us that the new company doesn't do anything but 12 month lease leases. They told us this two weeks prior to this post about that so we decided to bite the bullet and tell them we'll just go month-to-month and pay the extra 500. Now they're telling us they were under the assumption that we were doing a 12 month lease and that since we're doing month-to-month, they would have to retroactively charge us $500 for every month that we've been here past the end of our lease. We're going to seek legal advice because I'm pretty certain they can't do that and I've heard shady dealings about this place regarding getting their security deposits back. But I just wanted to get an opinion from anybody who's lived here or if someone knows if this might be illegal on their side?
