“If you look behind every exceptional person, there is an exceptional teacher.”- Stephen Hawking.
Exceptional people are usually not self-made. There is someone behind them who transforms them by challenging their ideas, motivating them, pushing them, not letting them stay average, and recognising their potential.
A teacher not only teaches a student. They shape who they’ll be. This creates a rippling effect. As the information they pass is not only for that one, but also for the ones after that one.
Truly, this is the prestige of being a teacher.
However, knowing is one thing. But acting on it is another. If you have the heart to push someone above average. Then what better chance than this? Your desk is waiting for you at Pehchaan The Street School.
Pehchaan The Street School
A non-profit organisation. Based in Delhi NCR. Established by Mr Akash Tandon in 2015. Since then its been working to provide education to the underprivileged children free of cost. Strategically located to reach them with over 10 centres across Delhi and Noida.
With the vision to give children their own identity through education. It redefined the lives of 1,600+ students. Not all at once, but one student at a time.
Drop by drop, an ocean is formed, not just by our hands, but as the result of a single ripple.
Deepak’s story
Let me give an example of this ripple effect.
Deepak joined Pehchaan The Street School in 2015 as a student in grade 3. Volunteers who used to teach children helped him with concepts he lagged in. Every weekend, they used to gather and continue the lessons.
He completed his studies with Pehchaan The Street School. Now he himself joins every weekend as a teaching volunteer and teaches children what he was taught.
Sometimes these kinds of stories sound perfectly structured like a scripted tale. But Deepak’s story is authentic and a symbol of consistency, effort, growth, and willingness.
The journey from someone who was supported to someone who now creates that same support for others is commendable.
To expand the list of such stories, we require a collective effort from your side.
The need for teaching volunteers
As the heatwave season begins, many prefer staying indoors. As a result, we are seeing low ground volunteer availability. But the support needed remains unchanged. To continue uninterrupted functioning, we require committed teaching volunteers. Volunteers who can step forward, give their time, and put in efforts to encourage and motivate our students to continue with their demanding academics without a break. If you can’t contribute through teaching, you can even join us as an intern in roles from HR to graphic design.
Your initiative is not just about teaching for a few hours or completing the task you were assigned as an intern. It's about being a part of the change. The change that won’t be visible on the first day or within a week. It’ll be gradual but tremendous.
Conclusion
Completing eleven years wasn’t easy, nor was it impossible. It was made possible because of the youth which was eager to give back what they received, and that’s actually how this world functions. Creating a cycle that keeps moving forward. And now it's your turn to carry it forward.
