If You Are Considering Renting from JDMRentalJapan, Think Twice
MY FULL EXPERIENCE ON GOOGLE REVIEW (UDPATE: THEY REMOVED/HIDE MY REVIEW)
Rental Summary: RX7 & R34 (5 Days)
Initial Safety Hazards
- Immediately after pickup, we discovered the RX7 wipers were not working and the R34 rear wiper was coming lose.
- Returning for repairs delayed our trip; furthermore, the shop failed to log our granted return extension, leading to a "late return" dispute.
Major Mechanical Failure (R34)
- The R34 had a severe steering alignment defect that caused the tire to rub internally, leading to a blowout on Day 3.
- Pre-existing Evidence: Upon closer inspection, the rental company's own website photos show the R34 with a misaligned steering wheel, proving the car was in poor condition before our rental.
- The Cost: We spent over 60,000 JPY on a rare replacement tire.
- Professional Verdict: A mechanic confirmed in writing that faulty alignment—not our driving—caused the failure.
Conclusion & Accountability
- Knowing these cars are over 20 years old, their condition makes it debatable whether they should even be cleared for rental.
- Despite providing real-time updates and mechanical proof, the rental shop has been uncooperative.
- This issue costed us 2 of our 5 days of rental period. We also had to further waste petrol on both cars, trying to find a shop that had a replacement tyre for the car.
- Avoidance: Staff refused to provide management contact info during the return.
- Ghosting: Since we left Japan, the company has ignored all WhatsApp messages regarding our reimbursement.
