How common is it that pension companies just don't pay out on time some months?

This month my pension was not paid because Nucleus have been making changes to their payroll - so my pension just hasn't been paid, leaving me with hardly any money in the bank. I will be going into debt soon if they don't cough up!

Speaking to some friends yesterday, they said they are constantly having to chase their pension (I forget who they're with).

How common is this? And how on earth are they allowed to get away with it? What rights and protection do pensioners have?
