Hello, I discovered the PCIe X16 to X8/X4/X4 riser and it's nearly perfect, except that you can't put a NVMe heatsink... 2 x WD SN530 256 GB NVMe SSDs and an AMD Radeon Pro WX 3100 4 GB. Unfortunately, I don't have the low profile GPU bracket... Perfect combo for Proxmox running on a Supermicro X9SRI-F with modded BIOS for NVMe/Re-Bar support. With this particular mobo, X8/X4/X4 and X4/X4/X8 bifurcation modes don't work... only one NVMe and the GPU are detected. With X4/ X4/X4/X4 no issues !
I'm a big fan of Radeon Pro GPUs... the blue is indeed, *magnifique* as we say in french. I owned in the past many of them : Radeon PRO W6600, Radeon Pro WX 2100 and 4100. I grabbed the WX 3100 for 20€.

I'm new but not a total beginner in Proxmox. I have an old but reliable machine based on a Xeon E5-2630 V2 (soon a 2696 V2), 256 GB 1333 MHz ECC DDR3 RAM (8x32 GB), a Supermicro X9SRI-F (with BIOS modded with NVMe and ReBar modules), an AMD Radeon Pro WX 3100 4 GB, a pair of WD SN530 256 GB NVMe SSD on a PCIe bifurcation card and 4 Dell enterprise OEM 1 TB HDDs.
I've already tested Proxmox on the machine but I want to optimize and guarantee drives longevity.
I would like to use ZFS mirror for the NVMe drives for the OS only, RAIDz1 or RAID10 for the 4 HDDs ? What about TRIM, arc, swap and zram ? I'm a bit lost tbh with all the infos on the internet.
I want to use the machine as a way to learn and to deploy some VMs for some services I used in the past : Navidrome, Vaultwarden, Batocera, etc.
Yes, 256 GB may be overkill but I bought them for a very fair price.
