Push the button, get a treat

Is there a segment that references a meta experiment that explains why Joel used to eat a treat after he tapped the commercial sign button? They don’t call attention to it, blink and you’ll miss it, but it’s there for at least season 1.

I originally watched in the 90’s but I admittedly do most of my repeated viewing on Twitch these days. I say that to admit that I probably missed a reference in an episode they don’t show on this platform that explains this.

I’m guessing it’s just one of those little things that loosely adds to the “experiment” narrative but I’ve always been curious.
