Hi everyone,
I’ll be applying for my F-1 visa in a couple of weeks after getting admitted to an M7 MBA program with a decent scholarship. My wife is currently pursuing her PhD in India.
Initially, I thought the right approach was to apply for an F-2 visa for her so that we could avoid the long B1/B2 wait times. However, my school said that since her visits would only be temporary, she would need to apply for a B1/B2 visa instead. That made sense to me.
She has already completed her biometrics, and her interview is coming up in a couple of days. I have two concerns:
In her DS-160, I mentioned that I would be sponsoring her trip. However, I will also be taking a loan to fund my education. Could that seem contradictory? In my Cost of Attendance documents, I have shown enough funds for both my living expenses and my wife’s expenses, but I’m not sure how the visa officer might view that.
I’m also worried that we may have made a mistake by applying for my wife’s tourist visa before my student visa. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Will the visa officer generally understand the circumstances?
Would appreciate any insights. Thanks!
