I personally really hate subs with excessive moderation
r/aviation has a staunch no politics rule even though aviation is inherently political and a lot of the issues in modern commercial aviation are caused to some degree by politics (war in Iran, understaffed ATC, lax FAA oversight).
r/Costco doesn’t let you use basic words like “this,” “that,” or “Mexico” in post titles, nor does it let you write “expensive” or “products” in post bodies. If you complain about how stupid that is they delete your comment.
r/fuckcars has an unwritten rule to remove posts that are “low effort, repetitive, not adding anything to the discussion, too negative, or too much circlejerk.” (too negative in a place literally called fuck cars?) This is not in the sidebar, your post just gets randomly removed with a boilerplate response. What exactly denotes “low effort” is not defined and seems to be at a moderator’s whim.
r/NancyGuthrie would never let me post anything as a main post, even though really stupid stuff got approved all the time. After I criticized them in their discussion post they banned and muted me. Talk about people with thin skin.
r/wtf has no guidelines on what “WTF worthy” means and rather than letting the users fucking vote and decide, some mod on a power trip decides basically based on their own whim.
And there’s the countless instances of putting genuine effort into a post just to have it removed/not approved with no explanation or communication from the mods. You followed all the subreddit rules, they just say fuck you in particular. I can’t stand it and it makes this platform as a whole more toxic and unwelcoming.
I’ve always believed in a very hands off moderation approach. Keep posts related to the show and keep them SFW. Don’t break Reddit sitewide rules and you’re golden. Mods forget that Reddit has a voting system where people who visit your subreddit can choose what kinds of posts they like and dislike, they literally vote on the matter. They can also choose whether or not to comment on posts. Posts that suck will get downvoted and no one will interact with them. Posts that are good and spark discussion will get upvoted and commented on. It’s not a moderators job to curate what gets posted, just to make sure posts follow the rules. If someone wants to say Zoey is insufferable, that’s their opinion and everyone else can upvote/downvote or share their perspective accordingly.
With all that said there has been a recent spike in discussions surrounding Alexa Nikolas and associated drama between her and other cast members. And again while I don’t like to control what gets discussed here it’s clear that it’s getting a bit much and crowding out the subreddit. It’s seemingly the same three accounts as well which is definitely puzzling.
So rather than banning the users or banning the topic outright, I think the best thing to do is just have a temporary 30 day ban on new drama main posts. You can still discuss it on previous posts or in this stickied post if you want, but any new posts on these topics will be removed. After 30 days we can revisit and see where things are. Again I really hate excessive moderation but it’s really getting old, let’s talk about Coco eating spoonfuls of Thousand Island dressing instead.
I played at the Wind Creek Casino in Aruba and loved their drink ordering system. Rather than having to flag someone down, you order drinks right at your machine. Once you’ve wagered (not lost) just $5, you’re able to access all the drink options. The menu was extensive with water, soda, coffee, beer, and different types of spirits and spirit combinations. I normally do vodka/Sprite and crazy enough that was an actual option in their drink menu. Once you order they even have this status tracker thing kind of like the Dominos Pizza Tracker letting you know how your request is coming along.
I’ve never seen this in a casino before and I was amazed. After long play sessions in Vegas not seeing a single person come by, or sitting at a bar and having to grind 6/5 Jacks or Better endlessly until the stupid light comes on... it was a breath of fresh air knowing exactly how much I needed to wager and having the drinks just come to me. You could only place one drink order at a time, but after getting one you could easily order another.
Spotted this getting off the ship in Hilo, Hawaii. As if the shipboard announcements and giant sign weren’t enough, they had to add all these sticky notes emphasizing that yes, you need a photo ID to get back on the ship. Having worked with the general public I can attest that a) all those notes are necessary and b) there will still be people who will proceed without one and throw a fit later.
