A couple of pieces of news re: the development of the Liberty Park site downtown were published in separate articles in The Albany Business Review today. Quick summaries:

Article 1. The people who were trying to build a soccer stadium downtown have dropped the stadium aspect from their plans, instead proposing "apartments, commercial space and a public park" for the site. They are reportedly looking elsewhere in the Capital District for the stadium. It seems that the Hochul admin wasn't eager for their CAP money to go to the soccer idea, thus the pivot.

Article 2. As the soccer enthusiasts retreat, a new challenger appears: Albany Med and a real estate development firm called The Galesi Group have teamed up with First Columbia for a joint proposal. Actual details about what their plan is are scant, but the biz review got a buzzword-packed statement from the Albany Med president saying that they want to build a "true innovation district in downtown Albany that would bring together health care, research, education, and industry to improve community health and drive economic growth," and that it would be a "fully integrated, live-work-innovate environment."
