I had the pleasure of finding a mud base under my entryway tile in my house. I have remove most (it will be all) of the sand and major lumps.

My question: How smooth, even should the slab be to cover with 2 inch concrete? Is this decent?

Had a contractor quote me 3k... so... that is out of the question on a teachers salary for 7x10.

I am ripping up some tile from the front entry way. The tile is very thick 3/4inch. Underneath i am finding what looks to be crumbled concrete.

What do I do? What am I looking at?
