Hi everyone,

I had my ileostomy surgery 3.5 months ago and more recently I have been getting quite bad pain in my abdomen which I now know is gas.
However, it is not the same gas pain that I would have been used to, it is quite intense and sometimes accompanied by bowel spasm and can radiate to my lower back.
Just wondering if anyone has similar symptoms and anything that may have helped them?

Hi everyone, I got my ileostomy just over 3 months ago and for the past 5 days I’ve been experiencing a new pain which doesn’t seem to be getting better (mostly manageable but can get quite intense). I thought it was gas pain as when I passed gas into my bag it would give me a tiny bit of relief sometimes but now it has turned in to a more dull aching pain and will travel around my whole abdomen, not just on one spot.

For a few days my stoma site itself was pretty sore too but that seems to have sorted itself out, now it’s just a constant dull ache in different parts of my abdomen. If I turn on to my back in my sleep I’m immediately woken up with the pain.

I returned to work as a nurse a few weeks ago and wondered was it muscle strain (although I haven’t been exerting myself in work at all)?

If anyone else experienced this type of pain did you ever find out what it was?

A few notes to add- for the first few days I felt quite sick with the pain but not much any more. I have also had my whole colon removed apart from my rectum do it isn’t colon or appendix pain. I also have UC, so disease wouldn’t be affecting my small bowel.

Grateful for any input!
