What the actual fuck is happening inside Urban Company, Chennai?

What the actual fuck is happening inside Urban Company, Chennai?

For context:

  • CM = Category Manager
  • SM = Senior Manager
  • BDA = Business Development Associate

So here’s what apparently happened inside the Chennai team at Urban Company.

A CM (let’s call him SJ) and a BDA (let’s call her M) started working together. Within days of joining, they got into a relationship. After that, both of them were regularly disappearing during work hours. “Lunch breaks” would apparently stretch beyond 3+ hours almost routinely.

At that time, the SM reportedly warned them multiple times regarding professionalism and office conduct, but nothing changed.

Another CM had apparently even decided to churn the BDA because of repeated behavioral concerns, but SJ defended her and shifted her to another category instead. There were supposedly escalation threads internally too, but not everyone was included in them.

Then things escalated further.

A few weeks later, they were reportedly caught hugging inside the office workspace and kissing inside a car parked in the office parking area. Another category SM escalated the issue.

And the outcome?

Only the BDA got churned during the first week of December. SJ continued like nothing happened.

But the most shocking part came later.

Between Dec 17–25, SJ allegedly brought the ex-BDA to the Velachery training center used by Urban Company teams. They reportedly used the 1BHK training facility and stayed there for hours continuously across 3 different days.

According to multiple employees, two BDAs even acted like lookouts/watchmen for them.

Then security raised concerns because:

  • An ex-employee had entered the premises without signing in
  • A bedsheet from the training center reportedly went missing
  • The CM and ex-BDA had remained inside the facility for hours

And the next day?

One of the BDAs allegedly returned the bedsheet after washing it.

Read that again carefully.

An ex-employee was allegedly being brought into a company training facility while employees covered for them, security raised objections, trainers escalated concerns, multiple people across categories knew about it… and still no serious action appears to have happened.

Apparently this was already escalated to the Trust & Safety team weeks earlier too.

So genuinely asking: What kind of workplace culture is this?

How does a CM allegedly misuse company premises, bypass basic security protocols, and continue operating normally while the entire thing gets brushed aside?

Because at this point, this doesn’t even sound like a professional workplace anymore. It sounds like a badly written corporate web series happening inside Urban Company Chennai.
