Context - I am looking for some recommendations to read alongside my son, he is 10 and we are about to finish up the Cradle series. He absolutely loved it and its also something I enjoyed re-reading with him. I am relatively new to the genre, and I do not have a good next book in mind that would be appropriate. I plan to pre-read the books before he starts, but given that we are starting Waybound today... Well I need to narrow down the options to ones that will hopefully be good to go so I can pre-read the first book or two on my own time before he is ready to start a new one.

As far as content limitations goes Cradle is right at the sweet spot - very little cursing, limited romance and basically no significant intimacy or risque undertones, and not terribly gorey/dark. Some gore and dark is fine, like cradle has people die or lose an arm but doesn't go fully into detailed gore or dive into horror type content.

For taste in books, this is the only series in the genre he has read so far, but generally he likes fantasy, fighting, a moderate amount of world building/lore, and a healthy dose of humor. He gets SUPER excited with reveals or sudden payoffs that were worked towards but still surprising.

Any recommendations?
