Brochis delphax!

I picked up these babies about 6 months ago now from my LFS where they were labeled “Corydoras melanistius”, and man has it been a ride!

These critters are far different from most other large Cory’s I’ve seen, for starters, they are EXTREMELY shy and until I got some Rainbowfish, pretty much never ventured out during the day. This was pretty disappointing, but this has fortunately changed! On top that, these guys seem to spend most of their time cruising around in the midwater, a bit like Pygmy’s, and really only touch the substrate occasionally to forage or rest.

Because of these unique quirks, it’s been a ride keeping these some-what rare fish, and I’ve definitely fallen in love, despite having a long patch of time where I was considering trading them in favour of a more common species.

Does anyone else keep these cuties? And if so, I’d love to hear all your experiences with them!

Surfing Cory’s!!

Does anyone else’s Cory’s love to surf in the filter outflow during water changes?

I’ve had a 55gallon tank running for awhile now, and since the very beginning I’ve had 2 large pieces of ghost wood as the centrepiece of the tank. However, despite having Otocinclus, Farlowella, and Amano shrimp, I almost never see any fish touch this piece of wood, and in fact they seem to avoid it. At first I figured that the glass and rocs were just easier than wood to graze, but then recently I added a piece of spider wood, and every grazer I have is covering it! Do they not like the texture of the wood? is it the strange fungus that’s growing on it deterring them? Has anyone else had this problem?
